How to Build the Perfect Golf Swing by Martin O Flynn - ArticleCity.com

There is no doubt that the golf swing is a relatively complex mechanical action that requires a specific sequence of movements in order to create a dynamic impact position.

One of the top swing flaws is 'paralysis by analysis' which destroys the natural flow of the swing.

I think the very worst thing that a golfer could do is purchase golf magazines or instructional books with the intention of getting the club into 3 or 4 positions in the back swing and 3 or 4 positions in the downswing.

The golf swing is meant to be a natural movement. It should be a nice fluid, free flowing movement from start to finish.

With this in mind let's commence with the 5 steps necessary to create the perfect golf swing;

1. Develop a pre shot routine A pre shot routine is the sequence of events that occurs right after you select the club from your bag to the moment just before you begin your backswing. You need to develop a consistent pre-shot routine which serves the purpose of keeping you relaxed and focused as you commence your golf swing.

I recommend you commence by placing your golf club behind your ball and visualize a line running through the center of your club, through the ball and dissecting the target.

Ensure you place the club behind the ball with the hand furthest from the target and stand open to the target when you are squaring the club. It is easier to align the club square to the target by standing in an open position.

Once you are satisfied that your club is square to the target, set up your stance, hips and shoulders square to the target line, ensuring all the time that the original club head alignment is maintained.

Next put your other hand on the grip and maintain light grip pressure by giving your club head a few waggles.

2. Commence a smooth one piece takeaway Become aware that your arms and the club head form a natural triangle i.e. there is a triangle formed between your arms and the golf grip. You need to swing the triangle back until your back is completely turned to the target.

Do not consciously try to cock your wrists at any stage; if your grip pressure is light these will cock naturally toward the end of the backswing. The only thought occupying your mind should be nice smooth rhythm.

3. Retain the flex in your right knee As you reach the top of your backswing, you must ensure that your right knee has not straightened. The best way to ensure this does not happen is to setup at address with a nice flexed right knee and tilt this slightly in towards the ball. Focus on maintaining the inward tilt throughout the swing.

4. The down swing is initiated by your legs. Feel your down swing commencing by a slight movement of your left knee towards the target. This will cause club head lag in which your wrists are pulled down on the back of the ball while retaining the full wrist hinge from the top of the backswing. A nice thought to bear in mind is 'butt of shaft to back of ball'.

This ensures you have a late release coming in to the back of the ball and deliver a powerful, crisp impact with the ball.

5. Think Rhythm When you swing a golf club you should visualize your favorite golf pros swing in your mind and think rhythm. Try to duplicate their rhythm and think of nothing else. This single swing thought will ensure a nice smooth swing and you will begin to swing the club naturally and thus powerfully.

So to summarize develop a consistent pre shot routine that incorporates square alignment, a few waggles and light grip pressure. Swing the triangle back with light grip pressure and turn your back on the target. Commence the downswing with the leadership of your legs and finish the swing in balance.

The single greatest swing thought to focus on is 'rhythm'.

Do this and stop breaking a natural motion down into its component parts. You will be delighted at how consistently you begin to strike the ball for every club in the bag.

Attaining The Perfect Golf Swing by David Franklin - ArticleCity.com

The game of golf has a Holy Grail, a mythical thing that everyone is searching for but nobody ever seems to find: the perfect golf swing. The reason for this is simply that there is no such thing as a perfect golf swing. Each person is different, and so the swing style that is right for them will vary somewhat. However, there are a few basics that when applied can dramatically improve your golf swing.

There is no doubt that a professional golf swing is at the heart of the game and it is not possible to expect to play a reasonably good game of golf if one is not able to produce a consistent and good professional golf swing. Golf specific exercises play a key role in helping any golfer dramatically improve on their game quicker and perfect various aspects of their game much more rapidly, such as the golf swing plane.

The Swing Plane

The swing plane represents the path on which your golf club should travel upon during the swing. A good swing plane is vital if you want to be a consistent golfer. The idea that separates the high handicapper and low handicapper is usually the ability to rotate your body, keeping the club on a consistent swing plane.

One of the easiest ways to analyze your swing plane is have someone film you. A more high tech way to assist you in correcting your swing plane is a laser light that fits onto the end of the club handle. A swing trainer can also help you with your swing plane. Don't try to force the club into the correct swing plane, as this is counter-productive.

Swing Speed

When it comes to swing speed some players just cannot swing the golf club very quickly. It takes an optimum level of strength to produce a high enough swing speed to hit the ball the correct distances. Using a golf training club is one of the most effective ways to increase golf swing speed and power. The Speed Stik Golf Swing Trainer is one of the better golf swing trainers available on the market today.

Developing core strength is important for increasing golf power levels and swing speed, which is why the proper exercise is also very important to improving your swing.

Swing Exercises

When you are implementing a golf fitness exercise into your golf swing improvement program, you must be able to place the body in the correct starting position of the exercise. It is a proven fact that muscles used in the golf swing that are not exercised and conditioned on a regular basis with the correct exercise will usually not respond to the correct golfing techniques.

Most of the touring pros are now using exercise for golf to strengthen their swing and have seen their driving distance go way up. I can’t tell you how many golfers have emailed me telling me their amazing improvements in power, distance and accuracy from using exercise for golf to strengthen their swing.

The power exercise in the golf swing can also tremendously improve on the enjoyment of the game by eliminating pain, even as your body is strengthened to play a better game. Failure to execute a proper golf swing has even been responsible for numerous nagging injuries many golfers suffer, which further hampers their game.

So there you have it. There is no Holy Grail, no perfect golf swing, but there are three fundamental improvements that can be made: in the swing plane, swing speed, and regularly engaging in swing exercises. If you are careful to pay attention to each of these three aspects of swing training, you are sure to see significant improvements in your golf game.

Establishing Your Perfect Golf Swing by Richard Myers - ArticleCity.com

Many experts would agree that most golfers take their swing too seriously. Learn the basics, practice a lot and stay out of your own way!

Here are the basic steps for a full and perfect golf swing:

1. Grip the club with your left hand so that your thumb lies along the shaft. The line between your thumb and index finger should point toward your right eye. Wrap your right hand over your left so that your left thumb fits into the cup of the right palm. If you are left-handed, reverse these instructions.

2. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart with your right foot pointing straight ahead and your left foot slightly to the left. Bend at your hips, keeping your back straight and your knees flexed. Distribute your weight evenly from front to back and left to right.

3. For the backswing, shift your weight to your right foot. At the same time, tilt your shoulders vertically so that your left shoulder points down, and right shoulder points up. The left end of the club will be pointing approximately at or behind the ball. As you’re shifting your weight to your right foot, release to the instep of your left foot so you can get behind the ball. Ensure that your right foot, right hip and head are in a vertical line. Begin your backswing with your hands, followed immediately by your arms and shoulders. Don’t hurry. This won’t create a faster downswing. Keep your pace steady throughout your backswing. If you aren’t happy with your golf swing, this is one of the first corrections to try. Slow down your backswing.

4. For the downswing and impact, start with your hips. Shift your weight to your left foot by leading with your hips in a slight lateral motion. Point the club end in your right elbow down at your right foot. At the same time, shift to the instep of your right foot so that most of your weight is on your left foot. Release your hips by rotating them through, so that your hips, belly button, and shoulders are facing the target. Your right toe is just balancing you, not supporting any weight. Hold the finish position. Look down the target line, not down at the ground.

Many golf professionals say that eighty percent of the perfect golf swing is the body pivot. This involves three main components:

• the turning of the body back, down and through

• the correct weight shift throughout the swing

• balance

Any loss of balance throughout the golf swing means that there is a pivot and weight shift problem. That will be reflected in the direction, loft and speed of the ball. Review these steps until you are comfortable and then keep practicing. The perfect golf swing is within your reach!

Richard Myers provides the avid golfer with video instruction to improve his or her golf swing. If the perfect golf swing and golf grip elude you, you need the proper golf swing trainer. http://www.thinkandreachpar.com.

Ways To Construct Your Golf Training Schedule by Andy Guides Jr

Training correctly is the most important part of your training routine. The most commonly forgotten part of golf training is shots near the green. Spending hours at the driving range hitting arrow straight drive might be exciting, but working on shots in the 100 yard range improves your scores faster.

For and training regiment to be effective, you must keep a regular routine. Golf training time should be shared equally between driving and approaches. An hour pounding drives should at least equal an hour on the putting green.

Do not neglect approach shots either, or chip shots and or shots out of the sand. A long, arrow straight drive is a thing of beauty to watch, but an accurate chip shot will save two-puts and win matches. When training, it is best to simulate real world conditions. Sure, you could rake the sand perfectly smooth for each and every practice shot and place ball gently on top, but that will never happen on the course. Toss the ball straight up in the air to simulate the dreaded fried egg flop. Set your practice shots up right against the wall of the sand trap practice high angle outs, or the smart shot off to the side.

Has it been a while since the grass was trimmed somewhere? Practice saving your game from the cabbage. Just because you cannot spend all of your time at the driving range does not mean you can practice. If you spent an hour at the driving range this morning, then you owe yourself an hour of short game practice. Take a bucket of balls to the local park and practice chipping from the tan bark, or the untrimmed edges of the grass.

Incorporating your putter into your training routine will prove the most important thing you can do. More matches are decided on the green than any other part of the course. Practice the long shots, the short taps and even a few from the fringe while on the putting green.

Do not forget that you can practice at home too. You can chip from the garden and weed at the same time. Refrain from mowing the back yard another week and practice some light chip shots. Find a neighbor and take turns hitting practice balls into each other yard to work on blind chip shots.

Regular practice is the most important element in your training routine. You will be better off with an hour, three times a day than four hours on a Sunday. Most important, enjoy your time. Golf is no fun if becomes work.
Imagine having an aid that precisely and correctly finds and imparts to the golfer the right feel performance and guarantees that the golfer will master the art of best swing. A golf swing training aid is an important part of any golfers development. Such golf training equipment is vital. For free information, please visit our website.

The Proper Way To Swing A Golf Club Starts With Having Good ...

by: Scott Kowalski

Last weekend was great for me! I got to do what I love best, and that is playing a round of golf with my friends. Being for most of us in our foursome it was the first time playing after the winter break. Most of us weren't very good. We hit a lot of bad errant shots mixed in with some good ones. We kept score but, we were all higher than our normal scores.

What I noticed the most however, because the golf course was playing long due to standing water and some wind. That we were all overcompensating by swinging harder than normal to make up for the extra yardage, and because of it bad swing flaws was quite evident. Instead of swinging natural and with good rhythm.

Instead we were rushing our golf swings, and the timing or tempo of our golf swings were totally out of sync. The erratic tempo we were exhibiting was due to hitting solely with our arms and trying to blast every shot as hard as you possibly can.

In your golf swing, your arms move relatively fast compared to the rest of your body rotation, and the odds of being able to replicate the same exact same hitting motion consistently with your arms is next to impossible. By rotating your body at the same rate of speed to your arms and shoulders it becomes relatively easier to control, because your mindset tells your arms how fast to swing in relationship to the rotation of your body. It is much easier to make the same movement consistently every time thus giving you the correct tempo you are after.

Another thing you will notice between the pro golfers and amateurs is their golf swings always seem to look effortless. They are not making the amateur mistake of trying too hard and wanting to blast the ball. This only leads to errant golf shots and less control. In order to become successful at golf, you need to understand the proper way to swing a golf club.

Trying too hard can cause your golf swing tempo or timing to get off balance or become too rushed. This will lead to many possible problems. So make sure to spend a little bit of your extra time on the driving range getting your tempo or rhythm down and you'll get rewarded out on the golf course for it.

Obviously, you have to practice to get better. Unfortunately, the average player never practices the same way a pro would practice. The pro is not out on the practice range to hit every shot perfectly. They are there to work only on a part of their golf swing mechanics. This means they know exactly what it is they need to be working on for every possible golf shot they will face. They will take their time trying to master the one element of their golf swing they feel is the weakest part of their game.

They also know that working on a certain position in their golf swing may take them months to master. The next time you go out to the practice range have a game plan. Know exactly what you are going to be working on and take your time working on your own bad swing flaws.

Create a smooth golf tempo for consistently great golf swings. Having good tempo is a huge asset for any golfers game. All of the touring professionals have great tempo in their golf swings. Good tempo does allow you to stay balanced in your golf swing, and direct your golf club where you want it to go.

The tempo of the golf swing becomes more consistent when you allow the club head to swing naturally. In order to keep proper golf swing tempo, you want to make sure that you swing the golf club the same pace on the way back and on the way through to the finish. If you are suffering from any particular bad golf swing faults, focusing on getting your tempo down will benefit you in the most positive way.

Swinging with proper timing will make your club swing on the correct swing path and eliminate or greatly reduce your golf swing faults. When I feel my golf swing starts to get off track by my lack of timing when I'm rushing or swinging too fast. I always try and focus on getting my tempo correct and naturally my golf swing starts to improve.

Why is learning the golf swing so tough? If you find learning the proper way to swing a golf club is so tough, you're not alone. There are millions of golfers who are in the same boat. If you have been reading my golf tips you'll probably know that at one time, I also thought it was tough. I tried every golf tip in the books and videos and hit thousands and thousands of golf balls in my quest for the perfect golf swing.

For us amateurs there is no perfect golf swing that we can duplicate. There are certain things we can do to improve, and here are 5 golf tips that will help you along the way to better understanding what you need to do to improve.

1.Finding the golf swing that you've always wanted. The average golfers swing doesn't look like the pros. The reason why the average golfers swing doesn't look like a pros is because the average golfer is using their arms to hit the golf ball instead of using your body. Unfortunately, the golf swing is not as easy as just hitting it with your arms. Try working with your lower body in coordination with your upper body (arms, hips, neck and shoulder rotation).

2. Lack of Knowledge. It's amazing the conversations you will hear when working out at the practice range. They believe they have the secrets to their success. This is the talk that I find interesting because I know from my own experience what works and what doesn't. I find it interesting because I can relate to what their talking about, and it gives me some perspective from another average golfers point of view. It tells me how people perceive certain golf tips and lessons and how they try to incorporate them. Instead of trying every golf tip that someone tells you, try to stick with the one method and become an expert about that one method of properly swinging a golf club.

3. Buying New Golf Equipment. That is not your #1 problem solution. Bad swing flaws with new golf equipment will always mean bad golf swings period. The amateurs who invest heavily into their golf equipment almost have this swagger about them thinking that they have solved the secrets of their golf game. Two weeks later they aren't talking about it anymore. Unfortunately, you cannot buy your golf game. Clubs are important but if you have a golf swing that doesn't work, nothing is going to help make it improve. Putting in hard work at the practice range can only do that for you in the long run.

4. There is a group of teaching students not teachers who have no clue what their talking about, and yet they are teaching beginners how to swing a golf club. This is very frustrating because I know they're going to give their students all sorts of bad advice and habits. I realize that this person means well but, relating the golf swing to someone in a way that they can understand it is very difficult. This is the most critical starting point in time for a beginner who is serious about wanting to learn. They have no bad habits and no re-conceived notions. The beginner would be much better off learning from a qualified licensed professional. Obviously, if anyone could teach golf there would be a whole lot more pros out there on the practice ranges.

5. By investing your time and energy at the practice range. Make it become a habit of yours visiting the driving ranges at least 2 to 3 times per week. Working on your golf swing flaws until you feel comfortable enough to take the golf swing out on to the golf course with you. Invest into training aids that will help you to groove the golf swing your looking for. Practice alone doesn't mean improvement it makes permanent. Practicing with the right golf mindset will instill confidence in your own ability, and this will contribute to more success with having the correct golf swing memory that will enable you to shoot better golf scores.
Scott E. Kowalski

Having good timing or rhythm starts with learning how to have a proper way to swing a golf club. In order to do that you must first analysis your own golf swing, and then understand what must be worked on as a game plan to get better. Then finally, implement the necessary changes to improve.

by: Jack Maurice

In the golf arena, there must be a reason why some beginners can easily performed the perfect golf swing without facing an over the top problem. Additional to that, they also managed to maintain the same flawless swing every single time they hit the ball. These group of people is clearly shows that they understand the technique in curing over the top golf swing or some other problem associated in the golf swing. Knowing the right golf swing technique is crucial in golf game. Without this essential knowledge you will only going to create a disaster in your golf game every single time you play the golf game and you will not able to lower your score. Not to mention achieving single handicap.

You will first need to understand and know what is over the top problem and how does this phenomenon to happen before curing over the top golf swing. Over the top usually happen when you positioned the golf club back too much on the inside swing plane. It is almost like position a scythe swing pattern or sideway in its arc rather than taking the golf club position on a straighter and upright swing arc. As a result in positioning yourself this way, as you performing the backswing, the club head is thrown away from the swing path which produces either a pulled shot to the left and hitting the top of the ball. This problem is very difficult to detect and you will not know how to stop this problem to happen if you continuing the wrong golf swing approach.

Have you ever experience hitting the top of the ball everytime you're conducting a swing? This one of the over the top golf swing problem is mainly focuses from your backswing. It is basically a premature movement of the upper body in the downswing where your upper body will always move ahead than your lower body. That is why the position from the backswing to the downswing must be corrected first in order to get the perfect straight and farther shot. However, this movement is very difficult to detect for yourself unless you understand the right concept of how a proper golf swing should be conducted.

Many golfers has experience this problem most of the time and it is hard for them to overcome this problem without a proper guidance. However there are set of guidance that you can follow in order to mitigate this problem to occur again:

Essential Golf Grip

You will need first check your golf grip condition when holding the driver or clubs. Make sure you're not gripping too tight. This is because by gripping too tight will tense up your body muscles which create body stiffness that preventing you from hitting the ball naturally. Make sure out of 10, your grip is firmed at 7 gripping pressure the most.

Addressing Yourself To The Target

This is when your body is in a proper golf swing addressing. Make sure you address yourself straight. Do not hunch your back but rather bend your body from the hip. Always remember to maintain your head level as when you going for the backswing.

The Downswing Straight To Follow Through

Always begin your backswing by taking the club back straight. By maintaining your head level, your left shoulder should be positioned below your chin and at this moment you should have the maximum cork on your backswing. Start the downswing by transferring the weight on to the left side while at the same time do not force for the swing to happen. Let the momentum do it's work. The only thing that you need to do is to guide both hands to follow through the swing.

This 3 principle is very important in curing over the top golf swing problem. It is the fundamental guidance and technique that need to be in grain in your muscle memory. In order to do so, you will need to practice all the three principles every time you go the driving range. You will amazed how you can improve your swing in just 2 short weeks!

5 Steps To Achieving the Golf Swing of Pro Golfers by Brendan Bunting

by: Brendan Bunting

Developing the perfect golf swing takes time and tons of practice. It also pays to take note of how pro golfers execute their winning swings. By taking note of the following tips and taking time to work them out, you will surely be enjoying tournament successes in no time.

1. Ask any pro golfer, and he or she will tell you that the power it takes to get that ball flying does not come from the arms alone. Use your entire body to achieve maximum power. If you are used to fuelling the golf club with your arms, wrist and hands, then you might struggle at first trying to employ the rest of your body. Practice hitting the ball with using your torso and legs. Once you get the hang of swinging the club with your entire body, you will notice that you are sending that ball flying with more consistency and accuracy.

2. Swivel your shoulders perfectly each time you do a backswing. Your right forearm should be parallel to your spine and your left wrist is flat. To ensure you are doing it the right way, your elbows and arms should form a triangle. Make sure you got this effective position pat at the top of your swing ñ you are guaranteed a perfectly solid hit, and a more accurate one.

3. Many amateurs fail at making a solid hit because of two reasons. First, the right way of pivoting the wrist is done too late during the backswing because the takeaway is likely to be too low to the ground. Second, achieving a bad posture by swinging the club too far during the backswing, thinking this is the right way to gain power. However, taking note of a few things will help eradicate these flaws. Make sure a 45-degree angle exists between your left arm and the shaft of the club at setup. Your hands should remain as close to the ground as possible during the takeaway, while moving the head of the club upwards rapidly. Notice how your left arm is parallel to the ground and the shaft is perpendicular to it? This is about enough to prevent you from swinging your arms too far at the backswing; thus, putting off bad posture and reverse pivot.

4. Golf is an outdoor game, so itís best of you are able to practice chipping outdoors. However, one is tempted to hit chips indoors from time to time. You can perfect your chipping with the help of a wooden rod or a busted club shaft. Get the hang of your chipping technique ñ just make sure that your left wrist remains solid as the club passes through the area of impact. The rod or shaft you are using will hit your left side should your left wrist give way during the impact. Practice is the key to mastering your chipping.

5. From time to time, even pro golfers get caught red handed losing flex in their back legs as they try for distance. Inconsistent swings constantly take the success out of any game of golf. Itís best if you can view your posture in a full-length mirror when you practice your swings from time to time. Start with the setup position, hold it then look at the mirror. Do the backswing, hold it and observe your posture. This will help you determine your postural flaws during your golf swing.

Mental Golf Practice to Improve Your Swing and Your Golf ...

Get Your Own Facebook Groups Poster Now!

by: Andrew Fogg

Imagining yourself playing mental golf can be just as effective for your swing and golf performance as actually hitting shots on the range or playing a round of golf on the course.

Golfers and other athletes have used mental imagery to complement their physical practice. Sometimes practicing golf in the mind actually produces better results than physical practice. In a study of medical students in Texas, students were given 30 minutes of guided practice for a complex medical procedure followed by either

1. no further training
2. a further 30 minutes of physical practice
3. 30 minutes of guided mental imagery.

In follow up tests, the students who did the guided mental imagery performed at the same level as those who had the additional physical practice and both these groups were significantly better than the group who received no further training.

So why is mental golf practice at least as good as physical practice? Well other research shows that the act of "Imagining” fires up the identical parts of the brain that would be activated if you were actually playing a stroke. The neurons used in the brain are the very same ones that would be used if you were actually playing. Indeed, some of the actual muscles involved in the imagined shot experience tiny movements. You effectively practice just by the act of visualisation.

One of my favourite stories about the power of imagination in golf comes from an American Major, James Nesmeth. He was an average golfer consistently scoring in the mid 90's, until he developed a unique way of improving his golf game. It came when he spent seven years in North Vietnam as a prisoner of war. During those tortuous years, Nesmeth lived in solitary confinement inside a prison cell that measured four and a half feet high and 5 ft long. To keep from losing all hope, he realized that he needed to do something to occupy his mind.

Every day he played 18 holes of golf in his mind. He imagined everything in vivid detail from the country club he was playing at to the smell of freshly cut grass in the summertime. He would imagine the grip of the clubs and practice his swing mentally many times until he perfected it. In reality, he had no place to go, so he spent four hours a day on the course in his mind never leaving any detail out. When he was released from prison and returned home, he played his first real game of golf for 7 years, he scored 74!

So when you find yourself with nothing important to do, maybe when you're travelling on public transport, when there's nothing worth watching on television or you're just daydreaming, just go inside your golf mind and imagine playing a round of golf. You may be surprised by the positive results.

Golf Swing Plane - Restoring Your Golf Swing by Carney Kilian

by: Carney Kilian

There are tons of techniques and principles employed by professional golfers and trainers to enhance their golf swing and ultimately their game. There have been hundreds of people claiming to define the best form, stance and hit in order to make that perfect golf swing consistently achievable to land you closest to the hole. One such principle was made popular by Ben Hogan and it has been coined the "Ben Hogan's pane of glass" or simply put, the golf swing plane.

The way Ben Hogan demonstrated the golf swing plane in the book was through a diagram that likely can be observed online. The diagram depicts a pane of glass arising from the ball on the ground, diagonal along the golf club at an angle through which the golfer's head protrudes from, giving the image of a pane of glass resting on the shoulders of the golf player. This pane of glass is extended through to the golfer's target line and when the golf head is made to swing along this pane, you improve your chances of making good contact.

Although visualizing this swing plane may seem easy and simple to execute, it is rather quite challenging to attain. Even the best professional golf players out there have difficulty keeping their golf heads at an ideal golf swing plane. If you feel as though you've already achieved proper form and stance yet there is still something wrong with your swing, you can try documenting your swings and studying it, and determining whether you remain at a constant golf swing plane or not. See if you're able to swing your club at the same plane as it returns. Don't be discouraged if it does not. Simply make modifications to your swing. Remember you do not have to be on the exact golf swing plane, as long as you achieve a flatter or more parallel swing, you are on the right path to becoming an even better golf player.

How To Use Golf Training Aids To Improve Your Swing by Mike Gelhaus

Looking for better consistency? Need to improve your accuracy? Desperately want some more yards? Or possibly you just want your swing to look a little better so your buddies won't tease you anymore. These are all great reasons for doing some work on your swing, but what is the best way to go about it?

There are so many factors of the golf swing that it can be intimidating just figuring out what to do first: grip, stance, alignment, takeaway, swing path, shoulder turn, wrist cock, tempo, timing, weight shift, etc. It's impossible to work on everything at once unless you enjoy tangling yourself into a pretzel. Here are some tips on how to find where to start, and on how to use golf training aids to help you improve your swing.

1. Learn! Get at least one book and one video about the golf swing and learn the basic concepts before you start tinkering. This can really save you some time and heartache. Learn about grip, stance, and alignment. Learn about swing path and clubface angle and how the two combine to affect the flight of the ball. There are lots of great golf videos and books out there written by guys who have spent their lives figuring out the best way(s) to swing, so take advantage!

2. Get lessons from a PGA pro! At the very least, take three lessons to check your grip, stance, and alignment before you start working on your full swing. Swing work is worthless unless you start from the right position, and you can get good instruction about the alignment basics almost anywhere.

3. Get some golf training aids! Golf training aids can really help you get results faster if you use them consistently. Here are some suggestions for golf training aids that will get you going quickly:

a) Molded grip. These are invaluable for learning how to grip it before you rip it. Make sure you get a grip/club combination that allows you to actually hit balls, because this is the fastest way to get used to the new position.

b) Swing Path. The club should approach the ball on a slightly inside out path for optimum distance. Get a swing path training aid to help with this. They can range from a foam barrier that physically prevents you from coming over the top, to a mat that sits on the ground as a visual aid.

c) Swing plane. Swinging the club on plane for the entire swing can help with your consistency. A variety of training aids exists from laser pointers for a visual aid to a large hoop that forces you to stay on plane.

d) Tempo. Get a golf metronome and use it during practice sessions. This will help you groove your swing rhythm and gain consistency.

e) Release. Your wrists must release properly through impact to get good club head speed and clubface angle. Get a release training aid to help with this.

f) Weight shift. You absolutely must shift your weight onto your right foot in your backswing and then back to your left foot as you swing through (for right handers). Many players have a problem with falling back as they swing through, which can cause a nasty slice and too high ball flight. Get a golf training aid that forces you to shift the weight onto your forward foot as you swing through the ball and you will gain distance and directional consistency.

If you follow all these suggestions, you will see results quickly. Good luck and stay focused on your swing goals!

Golf Swing Tempo vs Golf Swing Speed by Steve Snead

by: Steve Snead

Are you told by your golf buddies that you swing too fast?

Do you think Ernie Els swings nice and slow?

The chances are that Ernie's smooth swing is WAY faster than yours. It's not the speed, but the tempo, that separate you from Ernie, because Golf Swing Speed and Golf Swing Tempo are fundamentally different.

Quite often a golfers swing can appear extremely fast, because they don't have the correct swing tempo. They usually have a very deliberate take away and back swing, where they are trying to 'Place' the club head in the correct position. There may even be a deliberate pause at the top.

This is then followed by a rush, down towards the ball, trying to gain the momentum that was lost during the back swing phase.

The chances are that all of the PGA tour players swing faster than you. What separates them, from us, is that they do it with a swing tempo that is fluid not disjointed. They also swing to an exact tempo ratio.

I've read many articles, allegedly about Golf Swing Tempo, that start to talk about components of the swing. Swing plane, take away, ball position, alignment. These are fundamentals and separate parts of the swing. These are the individual parts that you learn, which when combined, give you a complete golf swing.

Golf swing tempo, is the glue that holds all of these constituent parts together. In fact, the more you swing, with the correct swing tempo, the more stable all of those swing components become.

So what is Swing Speed? Well it's simply the amount of time you take to get from the start of your takeaway to the point of impact. But let's say for simplicity sake, that for you, this takes 4 seconds. (And it better not! Otherwise you and I won't be playing together anytime soon!) If you take 2 seconds getting to the top of your back swing and then 2 seconds getting the club head to the ball, you really are not going to generate any club head speed.

So what is Swing Tempo? Let's take the same 4 second swing OK?

This time you take 3 Seconds getting to the top, but 1 second on the way down, and what do you have? Well you have a very slow swing, but you have PERFECT Golf Swing Tempo.....Why?

Because all PRO's swing at this exact tempo ratio. 3 To 1. So you can swing as fast as you like..Really! As long as you do it using the 3 to 1 ratio. Now all you have to do is achieve this tempo using one of the many training aids available. Most of which are audio cue devices. When you do what you will find (As I did), is that you will swing faster than you ever have, but with a tempo and a consistency, that is going to stay solid throughout your next round of golf. Also, when you use one of these aids, your mind tends to focus on waiting for an audio cue, which eliminates those mind games you tend to start playing when you are addressing the ball. You know, the ones that get you all tensed up and anxious, the ones that took away any chance you ever had of a good smooth swing tempo.

Your golf buddies will probably make comments like, "Wow, Your swing is so much smoother". They won't notice 'Faster'.

Because as I said...Golf Swing Speed and Golf Swing Tempo are two different things.

Whether you share this secret with them....Is up to you!

How To Use Golf Training Aids To Get Your Alignment Dead On by ...

If you hit the ball well, but suffer from consistency in your shot direction or shape, you may be suffering from alignment problems at address. This is an extremely important but very underrated factor in the golf swing, and most amateurs pay far too little attention to getting it right. Are your feet, hips, shoulders, and clubface aligned properly for each shot? Here's a short test that will help you find out:

First, are your feet lined up parallel to the target line? This one is easy. Just address the ball as if you were going to hit a shot, then put a longish iron on the ground so that the shaft touches both of your toes. Then take another iron and carefully line it up just behind the ball with the grip end of the shaft pointing toward the target.

Now, step back and see if the shaft by your feet is parallel with the shaft behind the ball. If the shaft points to the left (for right handers) then you will tend to swing on an outside to in swing path, which will predispose you to hitting pulls, fades, slices. If the shaft points to the right of parallel, then you will tend to push, hook, or draw.

Second, check your hips and shoulders. This is a little tougher. Leave the clubs from step 1 in place and address the ball again. Have a friend stand behind you and lay a club across your hips and shoulders to tell where they are lined up. If they are pointing left or right of parallel to the target line the same problems from step 1 apply.

Third, check your clubface. Believe it or not, this can be the toughest one. Tape a 12" plastic ruler or other straight object to the clubface and then address the ball normally. This will exaggerate any errors and tell you where you are aiming. If the clubface is aimed left of square (closed) you will tend to hook and if it is aimed right (open) you will tend to slice, depending on your grip and other factors in your swing.

Now, if the results of this test show that your alignment needs work, I suggest you check out some golf training aids that are designed to help you line up correctly. Several affordable training aids are available that really make practicing your alignment easy. Here are some tips for finding a golf training aid that will maximize your results.

1. Make sure the golf training aid is easily portable and easy to set up. If it's not convenient to use, you won't use it.

2. Get one that not only has a 'T' setup for aligning your feet and ball position, but also includes a mirror that will help you get your hips, shoulders, and head position right. Otherwise, why bother?

3. Use the golf training aid whenever you hit at the range, but make sure you practice without it as well. Hit 10 shots with, 10 without and alternate. Develop a feel for setting up square without the device, since you can't use it on the course.

If you get a good golf training aid and use it consistently, you should see rapid improvements in your direction and ball striking consistency. Good luck!

Training Aids - Three Different Categories by Max Johnson

Practice aids or training aids are available to you to improve any part of your golf game. In listening to the questions that are received about them, it seems that amateurs are just a little confused. In this article we will break practice aids into three categories, give you some examples as well as the ailments that they will fix.

First if you are already taking lessons, you should simply ask your golf instructor. They may give you a discount if it is purchased through them. In addition, they may have practice aids that you can make with things that you already own.

The three categories that we have broken the training aids into are:

Putting Training Aids

Many amateurs simply do not realize that they need to be careful when selecting a putting training aid. The reason is that they must know if they make their putting stroke in an arc or make their putting stroke on a straight line. If you make a putting stroke in an arc then you would benefit from a Learning Curve. The dimensions of the curve are set you give you the proper feeling every single time.

If you have made the decision that your putting stroke need to go in a straight line, then you would need to look at the putting square system or the putting plane alignment system. Both are railed systems that insure your putter moves straight back and through.

Full Swing Training Aids

Most players struggle with finding a good impact position. An impact bag will put you in the correct impact position. An impact bag does this by teaching you how the shaft needs to be leaning towards the target at impact and not away from the target.

Another full swing training aid is a balance rod. Balance is one of the most important things to have in your golf swing and talked about the least by golf instructors. A balance rod is placed under your feet as you swing the golf and gives you instant feedback on your balance. If you make swing that arte out of balance, you can slice or hook the ball. You never know where it is going.

Golf Fitness Training Aids

Again, if you are already working with a fitness trainer, it would be best to discuss with them on which golf fitness aids would work best for you. A weighted golf club will help you build strength as well as flexibility. You will need to make sure that you swing it equally right-handed and left-handed as you do not want to overbuild one side over the other.

A swiss ball or balance ball is a very flexible piece of equipment as well. With a balance ball, you can increase your flexibility with various stretches. In addition, you can build your core muscles by doing many of your strength exercises on the ball.

Listed above are the three main categories of training aids. Obviously, you can drill down as far as you would like and create sub-categories for swing plane for example. Keep in mind as you are buying the practice aid, will this help me and my current ailment or is this just what everyone else is buying?
