Dongguan, China: Potential stars of the future showed off their golfing skills during a fun-filled Junior Clinic at the Mission Hills Golf Academy.
For just over an hour, World Ladies Championship participants Nicole Garcia of South Africa, Korean Jeong Hye-yoon and China’s Li Zi entertained more than 20 children at the gathering.
As well as displaying how to strike a range of different shots – high, low, long and short – the professionals took part in a Skills Challenge that also involved the youngsters, aged between six and 16.
“It was good to see the children having fun and enjoying themselves,” said Garcia.
Tenniel Chu, Mission Hills Group’s Vice Chairman, said: “For more than 20 years, Mission Hills has placed a strong emphasis on junior golf development.
“The staging of clinics such as this not only allows the children to interact with professional golfers, but also they are able to pick up tips in a relaxed and friendly environment.”
The children that attended the clinic were made up of Mission Hills Academy students, players from the Mission Hills Junior Series and pupils from the Mission Hills International School.
While the elder participants hit chip shots to a target area, the younger children competed in a putting competition, racing against the clock.
Sam Green, Business Development Manager at Mission Hills Golf Academies and a PGA professional, said he was impressed with the improving standard of junior golfers coming through the various programmes on offer at the club.
“It’s great to see so many children learning the game here at Mission Hills,” said Green, who estimates that 40 per cent of the 25,000 hours of coaching that takes place annually at the Mission Hills Academies is dedicated to juniors.
“The fact that the winning scores in our Junior Series events is often under par is evidence of the overall improvement we’re seeing among the children,” added Green, who has been based at Mission Hills for the past four years.
In its continuing efforts to nurture and encourage young golfers, Mission Hills allows all those who pass a proficiency test to play for free at the Zhang Lianwei-designed par-three course on the Dongguan site.
“The proficiency test is half practical and half etiquette. It’s wonderful that the kids who come through that can then progress to playing on a proper course for free,” said Green.
The World Ladies Championship continues its long-standing partnership with the world’s leading renowned global services brand, American Express.

Golf exercises have been growing in popularity over recent years as people begin to understand the value of fitness to golf performance.
Visit: LangleyGolfFitness.ca
I'm going to show you three golf exercises related to core stability that you can do in order to
play better,
protect your back, and
feel better.
These three drills are about teaching you to resist torque and create stability even while we're doing rotational movements with the rest of your body. With all of our training like
With all of our golf exercises, we don't want to be mimicking our golf swing with a weighted exercise.
If it looks too close to a golf swing it will do more to screw up your mechanics than it will do to actually create strength in the areas that we wanted a golf exercise to create strength in.
Golf Exercise for Core Strength #1: Half Kneeling Chop & Lift
I'm using a cable stack for the first exercise, but you can also use an exercise band or resistance band as you do it.
The goal of this golf exercise is to keep the shoulders and hips facing forward, while preventing the cable from pulling us out of position. The cable will try pull you down into a collapsed hunched down position.
This exercise is great because it helps teach golfers to keep their hips strong and stable just as much as it does teach them how to keep their torso strong and stable.
This is also great for golfers because it's dealing with forces that are in a rotational motion rather than a straightforward straight back alignment we find with a lot of typical core stability drills.
Golf Exercise for Core Strength #2: Side Plank With Reach
This second exercise again teaches you to stabilize your trunk, stabilize your torso, stabilize your hips, against rotational movement rather than linear movement.
For this drill we're gonna be on our side, elbow flat on the ground reach. Opposite arm reached all the way up. We have to create that straight line all the way from our ears down to our feet. We don't want to be tucked down and crunched under.
Stack it nice and tall, we're basically going from that tall position, reaching all the way under as far back as we can go before returning to the start.
There's about a bajillion ways to cheat on this drill stickler. Watch the video above for a few examples.
Make sure you do this exercise on both sides. These are great for training stability throughout a wide range of rotated positions.
Golf Exercise for Core Strength #3: Quadruped Extensions
Quadruped extensions are basically a fancy word for on all fours. We 're going to be practicing again, what do you know stability with our trunk and torso while we create movement with our arms and our legs. This one using a
This exercise is completed with the golfer using a broomstick or club our back. From a position on hands and knees, maintain a flat back position without hunching and rounding the spine.
The stick will let you know if you're cheating.
Opposite arm and leg stretch all the way out, with the goal to get them nice and pointed. From their return all the way back that start spot on all fours.
With this exercise it's probably a little bit less about your feeling the burn or feeling really tired as a result. This exercise is going to be a challenge, but it will mostly be a challenge for your coordination and your body control rather than creating excessive fatigue in any one particular muscle

So there you guys have it; three golf exercises for core stability to help:
protect your back,
you play better and
you have less soreness.

Here is a good slow motion video of Luke Donald. In 2011, he played some very consistent golf and became the #1 player in the world. You can learn a lot by watching his golf swing. Notice how well he swings the club on plane. Swinging the club on plane is a key to hitting the ball solid and maintaining a consistent ball flight. Also, watch how the golf shaft bisects through his right forearm as he swings up and also when he swings down. Not much can go wrong when the club bisects through the forearm on the way back down. Also, notice how he has good hip rotation while the club stays on plane.
This is a very nice swing to try to copy.

PGA Tour instructor and former World Long Drive Champion Monte Schienblum has some very unique ideas about the most effective way to swing a golf club.
Here Monte joins me to discuss using the pivot to square the clubface when using his no turn and cast, style of swing. We also talk about the Process of becoming a better golfer and what he thinks it takes to improve at golf.
Using the no turn and cast swing almost everyone who tries it gets much better impact, more solid with improved distance. Some people struggle with direction control and face control with their shot though and Monte Agrees, that if you overdo the casting feeling and do not activate your pivot and hips in the downswing your clubface will be erratic.
So the point is to use the casting feeling from the top to start your down swing and get it in synch, at that point you can fire the hips. When you put those two together it is a beautiful thing!

Here we have Academy of Golf Dynamics instructor, Thor Lokey, discussing tips for cold weather golfing. Keeping your head, hands and feet warm is key, as is layering your clothes in thinner layers to keep core warmth while maintaining good mobility for your golf swing. The body doesn't move as fast and the ball doesn't travel as far in cold, dense air....so pay more attention to your club selection as you'll often need more club than normal in these cold conditions. Regarding clothing, there are a bunch of hi-tech, low weight fabrics now to keep you warm without the bulk. The Microtherm shirts from Eddie Bauer and Cold Gear from Under Armour are just a couple of good examples.

Hiya :). For this episode of Super Wackyflapper's Tips and Tricks we'll be focusing on golfing. Specifically, the easy courses. Afternoon Tee, Peanut Putter, and Swing-A-Long are the courses featured in this video. The percentages for each are below, as well as in the video. As I said in the video, the same percentage might not produce the same result every time, so Ill list a general percentage range and a more reliable percentage range if there is one.
Afternoon Tee :First shot ( should be all thats needed ) 71%-80%. More reliable percentage range: 72%-76%
Peanut Putter:First shot ( hole in one is unreliable ) 78%-90%. Second shot ( if needed ) use discretion depending on where you landed.
Swing A Long : First shot ( hole in one is unreliable ) 70%-90%. Second shot ( if needed ) use discretion depending on where you land.
Any questions? Ill be happy to answer them in the comments section below. Once again I will stress that the same percentage doesnt always produce the same result. For example, in the video on afternoon tee I did 71%. That will not always work because its on the shortest end of the percentage range. That is why I also gave a more reliable percentage range. Also, keep in mind that I do not know every percentage that works, the percentages I give are just my experience. Also, if the video looks a bit weird its becauase I sped up the video so it wouldnt be as long.
Thanks so much! - Super Wackyflapper
